DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY
The department of Botany was established in the year 2014 and offers M.Sc. degree in Botany. The department has also introduced Ph.D. program from 2017. Since its inception, the Department of Botany has remained at the forefront of teaching and research in Botany. The Department aims to provide quality based higher education in the field of plant sciences catering the needs of many in the region. The Department also emphasizes to promote integrated understanding and utilization of plants in various conventional and frontier areas of Botany. The major thrust areas of the Department of Botany are Floristic studies of the region, Plant physiology, Pharmacology, Biodiversity conservation, Forest ecology, Algology, Fungal diversity, Microbiology and Cytogenetics. The department has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the academic session 2015-2016.The curriculum consists of four semesters in two years. At present the MSc course of the department offers special papers in Plant Taxonomy, Microbiology and Plant Physiology & Biochemistry. Other special papers included in the syllabus are Mycology & Plant Pathology and Cytogenetics, Genetics & Molecular Biology. Dissertation is offered in concerned special paper as partial fulfilment of curriculum in 4th semester. The Department at present is offering research in Angiosperm Taxonomy and Plant Physiology & Biochemistry. It is likely to include more diverse fields in research area in near future.
